Health and Safety Occasionally, health and safety issues come up which require parental attention and awareness. These can range from playground safety to food handling at PTO events. Volunteers also work with the school nurse on various health issues. Volunteer Needs: The Committee Chair(s) and other volunteers become informed of Newton Public School health and safety policies, and work with the school nurse and other school staff to ensure Franklin follows them.
Committee Chair(s): Nancy Mazzapica

Hospitality and Staff Appreciation Luncheon You can’t have a PTO meeting or special events like the annual Staff Appreciation Lunch in May without a good cup of coffee or a delicious cookie. This committee is responsible for keeping everyone well fed and hydrated at important school meetings and events. Volunteer Needs:Volunteers are needed to help make or buy baked goods, drinks and other yummy treats for PTO meetings and other school functions throughout the school year. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Library Volunteering in the library is one of the most delightful parts of being at Franklin School. Parents are needed for all kinds of projects designed to help ensure that books are accessible and ready for the children to use. And, volunteering can be arranged to coincide with your child’s time in the library! Volunteer Needs: Volunteers are needed in the school library on a regular basis (weekly, every other week, once per month) to help check out, file and label children's books. Volunteers assist librarian with other administrative tasks as needed.
Committee Chairs: MaryAnn Buras et al.

Room Parents Room parents are an essential part of both the classroom and the PTO. As a liaison between classroom teachers, parents and the PTO, room parents help to disseminate information from teachers and the PTO to parents and to coordinate parent volunteers as needed by teachers and staff. They are a vital source of information and support. Volunteer Needs: As a room parent, volunteer throughout the year to communicate classroom and school needs/activities to fellow classroom families.

School Appreciation Day This fun day scheduled for October 13, 2007 gives Franklin School a new face lift and starts the year out right! Parents volunteer to help out with projects such as painting bookcases, building shelves, copying, and paperwork as requested from teachers and staff. Volunteer Needs: Volunteers are needed to help plan and set up School Appreciation Day. This would involve coming to a few planning meetings prior to the event and doing some prep-work for the project(s) you chose to supervise that day. Volunteers who have a van or pick-up are also greatly needed to transport materials/goods from Home Depot to Franklin the day or evening before the event. Most importantly, volunteers are needed to work on the day itself whether for 30 minutes, two hours or most of the day. You do not need to be an expert in woodworking, painting or anything else (but of course if you are, we hope you will come and help). There is lots to do – everything from photocopying to weeding – and any amount or type of help you give would be of great value to our school Click here to see what we did last year!

Welcome Committee Welcoming new families to Franklin School is a great way to help them become an integral part of our diverse, and yet well-connected, community. As a member of this committee, volunteers will work with kindergarten and other new families on how to make becoming a part of the Franklin community a positive and rewarding experience. You can help implement activities or make outreach calls to newcomers. Volunteer Needs: Volunteers are needed to be available to new families as they register throughout the year, to answer questions and to link them to school resources. Volunteers will especially work in the summer and early fall to send out buddy letters and to conduct orientations for kindergarten and other new families.
