Birgit deWeerd "Honeybees and the Art of Keeping Bees"
Ms. deWeerd is a scientist committed to expanding the understanding of, and respect for the importance of honeybees in our environment. Trained as a chemist, she is a beekeeper who has studied every aspect of the honeybee. Topics covered in her presentation are the social interactions of honeybees, their lifecycle and work roles, pollen and nectar collection, honey production, and the differentiation between honoeoybees and wasps. She also educates the students on how to behave in the vicinity of these insects. Ms. deWeerd show the clothing worn by a beekeeper, parts of a beehive and a jar of bees.
