Dear Franklin Community,
We are so excited to bring back Color Day this year and cannot wait to see the entire Franklin School community on the field together once again! Color Day will be held on Wednesday, June 15, and we look forward to seeing all your students enjoying fun and games with their classmates. Teachers will assign students their team color in the coming weeks and each Color Day station will be managed by volunteers, who are key to the success of the day! If you are able to volunteer, please sign up at https://signup.com/go/Rwnkdbs.
This year, there will be a new element to Color Day! Students will participate in a “Fun Run" station, where they will run laps around the Franklin fields for charity. Students will seek sponsors to pledge a predetermined amount of money for each lap that they complete, and student laps will be recorded by volunteers (please note that most kids will be able to run 3-5 laps during this time). Please see the fundraising form attached to this email. After Color Day, this money will be collected and donated to the Refugee and Immigrant Assistance Center (RIAC), an organization selected by the Franklin Social Action Committee and the 5th Grade Student Council. The RIAC is based right here in Massachusetts and was founded in 1993 by Mariam Gas, a refugee from Somalia who started this group by helping mothers and children at her kitchen table. RIAC today provides free services to refugees, asylees, and immigrants, and is the leader in resettling new refugees in Massachusetts. More information can be found at https://www.riacboston.org.
Our goal for this year is to collectively raise as a school community $2,000 for RIAC. We know this sounds like a lot of money, but we are confident the students can reach this goal! The student who raises the most funds in each class will be entered into a raffle, and the winner of the raffle will get to hit Principal Chitty in the face with a pie at the end of the school year!
All pledge sheets and donations are due by Friday, June 17th. Please remember to make sure your checks and online donations include your students name, grade and teacher – a chance to throw the pie is at stake!
Thank you in advance, for supporting your child(ren) and Franklin Elementary School in our community efforts. Please reach out with any questions and we look forward to seeing many of you on June 15th!
