About the Event

Dear fellow Franklin families,

Following the events of the last few months, Families Organizing for Racial Justice (FORJ) Franklin has arranged for follow-up conversations to address the feelings and questions that arose after the letter regarding the principal, listserv responses and forum with NPS. We are fortunate to welcome facilitators to educate and engage us—any and all—in this opportunity.

Below is a description from our experienced co-facilitators, Carro Hua and Madeline McNeely. We hope to see you there; the forum will be hosted on Zoom (details below).

Warmly,

Siobhan Crosby and Jackie Savage-Borne

Healing and Dealing Rooted in Historical Racial Trauma and Restorative Approach: A 2 Part Series

A change in leadership in any community is a time of uncertainty. These two forums are geared towards processing what we have gone through as a community in the wake of the Franklin school principal departing. As we process collectively, in the first session, we will apply an intersectional and anti-racist understanding to the situation rooted in legacies of racialized violence and trauma. We hope that through collective reflection and commitment to change, we can model for our children and each other how to act in anti-racist ways.

The second session (summer), is designed to support the community as we move forward and learn more deeply how to create an inclusive and caring ecosystem for leaders, teachers, staff, parents and children of color to thrive in predominantly white spaces at Franklin and throughout the Newton Public Schools.
