Dear Franklin families,
We’ve officially made it through this unique school year, and it was definitely challenging to say the least. However, we really saw everyone pull together and work harder than ever before to try to make this the best year possible for our kids, despite the pandemic. We are grateful to be a part of this amazing community, and are hopeful that many of our beloved Franklin event traditions will return starting in the fall.
First, we wish a fond farewell to Principal Jocelyn and to all of the families who are leaving Franklin as their 5th graders graduate this week. We will miss you and hope you will come back to visit! Many thanks to the 5th Grade Moving On Committee for planning this year’s outdoor events and making it such a special final year at Franklin for the Class of 2021. Thank you also for the class gift of the graduation footbridge, and stairwell stickers!
Second, we are excited to announce that Jessica Allen will be joining Emilie Chang as PTO Co-President for the 2021-2022 school year. Jessica has been a dedicated member of the PTO board as our Secretary this past year and room parent coordinator. We are so grateful that she is willing to take on this new role, and we are lucky to have her as part of our team.
We are also happy to share that joining the PTO as board members next year are Tim Brenner, Kate Civetti, and Helen Makadia. We are delighted to welcome them and excited for what they will bring to the team! Remaining on the board will be Amy Horsman as Treasurer and Nancy Maida as our new Secretary.
We also want to thank Anya Huston and Julie Conlon who will be leaving the board and have contributed so much! In addition, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Tamara Wieder who was on our board as a DLA Liaison and will be leaving as a graduating family. They all brought a lot of enthusiasm and ideas to support our school, and they will be greatly missed!
Third, thanks to your participation and contribution to many of our events that were shifted to a virtual platform or brand new this year, we were able to raise over $25,000. All of your support made it possible for us to do some great things for our school community, like fund teacher mini-grants, teacher discretionary checks, the Creative Arts & Sciences Program, Franklin families in need, staff appreciation events, Franklin FORJ, the library fund, technology spending, and more!
