“We used our PTO grant to fund a series of music therapy sessions led by David Nicholson from Dana Farber’s pediatric oncology department. David’s sessions taught and practiced mindfulness and art & music therapy. Students learned important skills like managing their feelings and worries, regulating their emotions and increasing self control. It encompassed all 5 competencies of social emotional learning. Because of the PTO grant, we were able to provide this valuable learning opportunity to our second graders at a time when their social emotional development was a particularly high priority. Most importantly, the second graders really enjoyed the music therapy sessions and were able to use the skills they learned and practiced in a variety of settings throughout the school year.”
