Franklin Turkey Feather Day and Food Drive! 11/19 (Cohort B) and 11/23 (Cohort A)

Updated: May 19, 2021

Hello Franklin!

Starting next week, on Thursday, November 19 (Cohort B) and Monday, November 23 (Cohort A), we are looking forward to a fun part of our school's Thanksgiving week traditions. All students are invited to participate in our annual custom of decorating a feather - in any way they like - and all of the feathers collected will be added to the big collective turkey we create together! Hybrid students will be receiving a print out of the feather in their folders this week, and it has been emailed to DLA students who would like to participate as well! On Thursday, November 19 for Cohort B, and Monday, November 23 for Cohort A, have your child bring their decorated feather and come hand it to us in front of the school. DLA students can drop off either day between 8:10AM and 8:30AM. It will get added to our big and impressive Franklin community turkey :)

For several years running, Franklin has done a one-day food drive in conjunction with the Thanksgiving season, in acknowledgement of the giving back to our community this season celebrates. We have always worked with the wonderful Centre Street Food Pantry, and this year they have let us know of specific needs they have for their Kids Club Food Drive. The Food Pantry has always appreciated how giving Franklin is, and this year with existing needs and inequities even further amplified by COVID, we know we can do another great job of giving. You can choose to fill a brown handle grocery bag (double bag please) with the following items, OR bring one or more items from the list to school and we will create the bags :) - 1 box Granola bars (any kind) - 1 box cereal or oatmeal variety pack - 1 jar peanut butter - 1 jar jam - 6 or 8 mini juice boxes or milk - 1 pkg Fruit cups or applesauce cups - 1-2 boxes mac n' cheese - 1-2 cans kid friendly soup or canned pasta - 1 snack pack pudding cups or cookies or fruit snack - 4 small snack bags or 1 large snack bag (pretzels, corn chips, goldfish, or crackers) **Optional: fun items such as stickers, crayons, activity books can also be included. Children are also welcome to write a card or decorate the brown bag. All donated items should be brought along with the decorated turkey feather to the front of school on Thursday November 19th (Cohort B) or Monday November 23rd (Cohort A) from 8:10AM - 8:30AM. DLA families can drop-off either day. Please consider donations that will directly help school age children in need. Email Jackie Savage-Borne at jsavageborne@bwh.harvard.edu with any questions at all. Also if possible, walk to school those days :) Thank you as always to the Franklin community!! With gratitude, The Social Action Committee
