The Franklin Social Action Committee connects Franklin families to service and donation opportunities to raise awareness about community resources and needs, and to support our neighbors within and beyond Newton. We coordinate donation drives and volunteer events in partnership with local nonprofits and businesses.
We have several drives happening this fall, and we hope these can be opportunities to involve your kids in service when and if that is possible for your family.
We are excited to announce that our first Social Action project of the year is a home goods drive for Welcome Home! Welcome Home is a home goods pantry right here in West Newton that provide home essentials to people struggling to meet their basic needs.
We are collecting donations between October 7-18
What to donate:
Clean, new, or like-new:
BLANKETS or SHEET SETS in ALL SIZES
TOWELS
POTS and PANS
***Important: please make sure that donated items have no rips, stains, scratches or rust***
How to donate:
There are two easy ways to donate:
Drop off items in the collection bin inside the front entrance of the school
Order items from this Amazon list (all under $25!) to have them sent directly to one of the co-chairs of the Social Action Committee: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/270F6516MTQ
We’re aware that folks are sometimes in the position to give, and at other times may be in need of assistance. Is your family in need of basic household items?
Please reach out to our Franklin Social Worker Daniela at mackinnond@newton.k12.ma.us at any time to get connected to resources.
Feel very free to reach out to our committee at any time to get involved, and/or with any ideas you may like to see us consider to involve our kids further in social action.
