Girls on the Run Program at Franklin for Grades 3-5! Looking for parent volunteer coaches!

Updated: Aug 18, 2021

Dear Franklin families,

One of our new staff members, Julia McTigue, coached a Girls on the Run team at Angier this spring, and is excited to start a Girls on the Run program at Franklin this fall! She will be the long-term substitute for Michelle Beatrice in third grade (co-taught class with Molly Norris), and is interested in finding parent volunteers who would like to join her to coach in this program! She will also be reaching out to Franklin staff as well and is hoping that she can find 2-3 Assistant Coaches, which can be a combination of parents & staff.

Girls on the Run (GOTR) inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. The program enhances girls' social, emotional, and physical skills, and has reached 2 million girls across the country. This program is for girls in grades 3-5. The season consists of meeting twice a week after school for 8 weeks and culminates in a 5k at the end of the season. The fall season begins the week of September 19th and the 5k is Saturday, November 20th!

She is tentatively thinking of holding practices Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00pm - 4:15pm, although she is flexible and happy to work with other interested coaches to find a common time.

If you are interested in being an assistant coach for this wonderful Girls on the Run program, please reach out directly to Julia McTigue at mctiguej@newton.k12.ma.us.

Thanks, and we hope your start to the summer has been great so far!
